PROUDLY AUSTRALIAN
Amore Tea is an Australian-owned small business and all of our products are skilfully crafted, blended and packed in Australia. We offer a selection of single estate teas and blends that we collaborate with growers and small scale cooperatives around the globe. We have been guided by our purpose to honour your health and tread lightly on the planet and ensure our practice is ethically sourced, sustainable for the environment, for people, and for our communities around the globe where possible.
PLANT-BASED
All of our products are 100% vegan, are not tested on animals and contain no animal derived products.
CERTIFIED ORGANIC or NATURAL
Our tea is certified organic, organic or bio-dynamic where possible. Certification in the tea industry is not reliable, therefore we ensure we buy smart from ethical producers, tea farms, and suppliers.
“Remember, an ‘organic’ marker does not mean no pesticides, it simply means natural-based pesticides”
Our Ingredients are of the highest quality and are grown in more mountainous and elevated areas around the globe where there is reduced air pollution and a minimal effect on tea growing.
In addition, tea farmers face huge challenges in low and fluctuating prices and lack a lot of power in the tea supply chain dominated by large companies, pests ruining their crops, and unfair treatment. Therefore, we ensure we support these small scale businesses, but also ensure we buy from tea farms where workers are treated fairly, as this can have a very real and human cost. A lot of tea workers are malnourished, face low wages, long working hours and difficult estate management for basic needs such as housing, healthcare, access to water and even education for their children. All this effects the quality of the tea and plantation.
NON-TOXIC
We are committed to only the finest ingredients and use only pure leaf teas, herbs and essences. We produce products that are free from toxic and hazardous ingredients, including genetically modified ingredients. We believe every cup should be an aromatic, sensory and authentic experience. We say no to natural or artificial flavours, and no to tea concentrates and powders.
The biggest issue is not knowing where your tea comes from. Just about all supermarket tea is full of chemicals and toxic metals. Buying premium tea from small -medium tea farms where tea is grown in their natural state is a more environmentally friendly and healthier way to go.
CYLINDER TUBES & PACKAGING
Cylinder tubes – are made and printed in Australia from mostly Australian made products. They are airtight and of food grade material. We also use biodegradable cellophane and/or hand embossed glassine bags to package our tea.
Sample bags and packaging – is made in Japan and China and will move to more sustainable packaging in the future.
Tissue and thank you cards – are printed with soy-based inks, on FSC-certified paper, and is acid, sulphur, and lignin-free. Tissue paper is 100% compostable, recyclable, and made from recycled materials.
Stickers – Our logo and thank you stickers are made from FSC-certified paper, and printed with soy-based inks and are 100% compostable.
FLOWER ESSENCES
Our Wildflower Essences are sourced and made from generational qualified herbalists and use pure Australian products. They are also made up in the environment where they are naturally grown, free from pollution and toxins using pure Australian spring water and brandy as a preservative.
TEA STORAGE
WILDFLOWER HEALING TEA
Our Wildflower Healing tea is not tea for ageing. Due to the addition of flower essences, testing has not been carried out for extensive aging, therefore, our tea is carefully formulated to be taken within 6 – 12 months due to the addition of flower essences. As a result, we do not pack our tea months in advance to ensure freshness, as any residual air or matter may increase oxidation and deteriorate the tea. The tea is formulated for immediate healing, therefore, to be taken soon after arrival.
If pure leaf tea is not stored or processed well, fungal contamination of tea can occur at any stage of commodity production and can pose a health hazard due to the accumulation of toxic secondary metabolites of moulds.
Light is a powerful reduction agent. It turns all the fragile good tasting elements of tea into either indissoluble matters or bad tasting compounds. If you compare tea left to light exposure with properly stored tea, you will immediately experience a difference. Storing or purchasing tea in clear jars or packaging is also reducing the quality of the tea and herbs.
AIR AND MOISTURE
A properly processed tea has a moisture level below 6%. Tea is a powerful absorbing agent, and therefore cannot be exposed to strong odours and flavours as this can deteriorate the quality of the tea.
Oxygen in the air also changes tea quality by further oxidation. This can really change the stored polyphenols in green tea, as a key processing point in green tea is ‘kill green’, to stop tea leaf oxidation at a desired level, deactivating their oxidative enzymes and removing unwatned scents in the leaves, without damaging the flavour of the tea. Whereas, in the process of black tea production, tea leaf catechins are enzymatically oxidized to yield a complex mixture of oxidation products, including theaflavins and therubigins, resulting in very complex chemical constituents.
GREASE
The most easily applied form of natural or applied grease is the human hand. Hand contact with tea before usage should be avoided as this too can form unknown material and change the quality of the tea. Even though it may be a gradual deterioration of the tea, oxidation is again triggered, which in turn affects the chemical compounds stored in the leaf and deteriorate the quality of the tea.
HEAT
The chemical compounds of the tea leaves continue to change over time when heat is exposed as residual enzymes and oxygen further the oxidation process and will shorten the tea’s shelf life. Tea needs to be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat. light and air to avoid changes in the chemical compounds of the tea, which will affect shelf life and flavour.
Most green teas and lightly fermented oolongs store better in temperatures between 5~8°C , like a fridge, and away from strong odours and smells, and then need to served at room temperature to avoid condensation forming on the leaves. All other tea can be stored at room temperature below 25°C.
AGED TEA
Most oxidised tea can be aged, however, fermented teas such as puer and dark teas, and charcoal baked oolongs , like Roi Gui and Dahongpao, should not be shelved under 10°C, as the leaves require maturing at a much higher temperature. This is why a lot of dark tea is matured in bamboo baskets or porous containers to allow the tea to breath and mature slowly.
